Police nab man for bathing with blood in Ogun river
2 min readThe Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested a 49-year-old man, identified as Ganiyu Shina, for allegedly bathing with blood in a community river in Kotopo area of the Odeda local government.
Shina, who lives at Oguji Street, Obantoko Abeokuta, was arrested on Thursday, December 15, 2022, according to a statement by the Ogun command’s spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, which was made available to newsmen.
Oyeyemi stated that the suspect was arrested when members of the community sighted him at the river bank, where he parked his Nissan commercial vehicle, came out with a local sponge and a container filled with blood and started bathing with it.
He said, “Immediately he discovered that some people were watching him, he took to his heels, but was chased and apprehended by members of the community.
“A call was made to the police at Aregbe divisional headquarters by a member of the community, and the DPO, SP Bunmi Asogbon quickly led the patrol team to the scene, from where the suspect was brought to the station.
“On interrogation, the suspect claimed to have a spiritual problem, and that a herbalist instructed him to perform the ritual. He claimed further the blood in his possession was not human blood, but that of a cow.
“Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has directed the remaining blood be taken to a laboratory to analysis, to ascertain whether it was human blood or not.
“The CP also praised members of the community for not taken laws into their hand; he therefore assures them that the suspect will be thoroughly investigated,” the statement partly read.
