Man goes blind for allegedly defiling neighbour’s daughter in Anambra
1 min readA middle-aged man was reportedly blinded by a deity, otherwise known as Ita, for allegedly fingering and defiling his neighbour’s one-year-old daughter in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The suspect Friday Ameh was said to have been dragged to the deity in Ikem village in Nando, Anambra East Local Government Area after denying committing the crime.
The suspect, in a viral video, was seen being interrogated by the Chief Priest of the deity before the villagers who gathered at the shrine to watch the drama.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime, attributing it to the devil’s handiwork. He pleaded for mercy and forgiveness from the deity and the villagers.
He also admitted he initially denied the allegations when he was accosted by the villagers, which forced them to drag him to Nando to swear before the deity to prove his innocence.
He further confirmed the deity had cursed him with blindness for not just being guilty but also denying the action.
When contacted, Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga said he had no information on the incident but promised to take necessary actions.
“I don’t have any information on this, please. I will reach out to the stakeholders in Nando, to ascertain the authenticity of the incident and possibly to arrest the suspect,” he said.
