IWD: DPA sets aside N2m for pro bono legal services for women

As part of its celebration of International Women’s Day 2023, Emeka Ugwuonye, Founder and CEO of Due Process Advocates (DPA), has donated the sum of two-million naira to assist women facing challenges in various categories of family law cases.
While confirming the donation in a statement made available to Eculaw News, the Harvard trained attorney said, “International Women’s Day is celebrated to mark the fight against various gender biases and to bring attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. It has become a forum to raise awareness and galvanize change in society. It is a very important day for us in DPA. Much of our work in Nigeria in the past seven years has been the creation of awareness for the rights of women and the issues of gender equality.
“On this year’s occasion of the International Women’s Day, DPA pledges to sets aside the sum of N2,000,000 (Two Million Naira) to go toward pro-bono legal services to women in need in all cases involving gender discrimination or gender inequality. May God bless our women.”
Within 24 hours of the announcement, three women received grants worth N200,000 each toward their cases they have pending in various courts in Nigeria.
