BREAKING: Despite pleas, court sentences Ekweremadu to 10yrs in prison

Former Deputy President of the Nigerian Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice and their middleman medical doctor, Obinna Obeta, received their sentences today, following their conviction for organ trafficking in March, in the first verdict of its kind under the Modern Slavery Act.

The UK court sentenced Senator Ike Ekweremadu to 10 years and 6 months in jail. His wife Beatrice Ekweremadu was jailed for 6 years, while doctor Obinna Obeta was also jailed for 10 years

Ekweremadu, 60, his wife, Beatrice, 56 and Obeta, 51, were convicted of conspiracy to arrange the travel of a young man, identified as David Nwamini to Britain in order to harvest for his kidney, which was needed for the lawmaker’s sick daughter, Sonia.
