4 min readMore opposition Parties in Abia State have continued to throw their weight behind the return bid of the incumbent Senator representing Abia-North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu to the National Assembly.
With less than 24 hours to the much anticipated election, candidates of various major opposition political parties have aligned with Senator Kalu’s quest citing his ability to expedite iconic developmental projects in Abia-North during his first tenure.
Some of the parties in Include; Presidential candidate Kwakwanso’s , New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), African Action Congress (AAC), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The parties candidates openly declared their solidarity for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
On Wednesday The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) House of Representatives candidate for Arochukwu Ohafia/Federal Constituency, Chief Fred Idika endorsed the reelection bid of Kalu.
Fred Idika, a former Transition Committee Chairman of Ohafia Local Government Area applauded Senator Orji Kalu’s giant strides in a viral video now trending on social media.
In the video, Mr. Idika was seen campaigning for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, urging the voters to reelect Senator Kalu due to his outstanding performance within four years in office.
He said: “During the presidential and National Assembly elections, you would be given three slips, vote your conscience in the presidential slip, vote Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Senate; in America where I live, we consider performance first and he has performed very well and finally vote for NNPP in the House of Representatives slip.”
“I don’t do Party politics, I judge people based on their antecedents, and we when it comes to the Senate, you should vote for the one who has been working for you and it’s no other than Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. I am calling on you all to vote for Senator Orji Uzor Kalu. He has done roads and unprecedented projects we have never witnessed before.
Idika’s pronouncement sent the crowd into wild Jubilation in concurrence to his endorsement of Senator Orji Kalu.
You will recall that the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) House of Representatives candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. James Obioma Nelson has endorsed him for a second term.
The endorsement, according to the Item-born politician, is in recognition of the immense contribution and laudable achievements of Senator Kalu. He attributed his position to not only Senator Orji Kalu’s credentials, but to his impressive transformational performance in the provision of dividends of democracy in the last three years.
Similarly, African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, Mr. Kalu Prince-Iroha had also openly declared support for Kalu citing his satisfaction with the level of infrastructure in their district courtesy done by the Senator. The House of Assembly Candidate also informed that he and his party have concluded to collapse their structure to work for the re-election of Kalu.
In a similar vein, Hon. Ebere Nwankwo, the House of Assembly candidate for Umunneochi State Constituency under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), also openly endorsed the re-election bid of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.
Nwankwo popularly known as Ebere Umunneochi did the open declaration on Sunday at Obinolu ward in Isuochi, Umunneochi Local Government Area during the senator’s campaign visit to the area.
Also, Chief Chinedu Obilor Iyiereoba, popularly known as Fayose of Ohuhu has endorsed the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s reelection bid.
Obilor, who is the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) House of Assembly candidate for Umuahia Central State Constituency, made the endorsement in a video when he paid a courtesy visit to Senator Orji Kalu at his Igbere camp Neya Residence.
He praised Kalu’s outstanding performance within four years as the Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, urging his opponents not to waste their money and time contesting against the former Abia state governor.
Additionally, the Action People Party (APP) candidate for Abia North senatorial district, Adije Ifeanyichukwu Kingsley announced his decision to step down from the contesting, supporting his APC opponent, the incumbent Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu.
Additional with barely 48 hours to the Feb. 25 presidential and National Assembly elections in which Sen. Kalu a former governor of Abia State is expected to slug it out at the polls with other contestants.
Mr. Kingsley told newsmen on Thursday that Sen. Kalu is the most credible candidate among other contestants seeking to represent the senatorial district.
He urged his supporters to vote for APC in the senatorial contest and vote for APP candidates at other levels of the elections.
Mr. Kingsley assured his loyalists that Sen. Kalu will continue in his track record of outstanding performance in delivering democratic dividends to them.
