5 electrocuted while mounting church billboard in Rivers

Five persons have been reportedly electrocuted in Rivers State while trying to mount a metal frame for hanging of billboards in the State.

Also, this medium gathered that four others involved in the unfortunate incident are currently battling for their lives at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

The incident happened on Monday at Obiri-Ikwerre area of Rumuosi in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the Rivers State on Monday.

According to report, a team of 9 men were mounting the billboard, a major outdoor advertisement with a metal frame, when the frame touched a high-tension cable, which immediately resulted to a serious spark.

The electric current gripped and shocked five of them to death while four others were said to be in critical condition.

The victims were said to be private businessmen contracted to mount the billboard for a new generation church.

While confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Police Command in Rivers State, Grace Iringe-Koko said, “Yes, we are aware. It is very unfortunate. Investigation is ongoing to ascertain what really happened. “
