Okada riders kill police operative in Lagos

Motorcycle riders on Friday killed a police officer attached to the Iponri Division in the Ijora Olopa area of Lagos State.

The late officer and his team, this medium gathered had gone to the area to enforce the restriction order on Okada riders by the Lagos State government when they came under attack by hoodlums reportedly armed with dangerous weapons, such as cutlasses, clubs, and charms.

The assailants attacked the policemen and also tried to burn their operation van but they were prevented by the Rapid Response Squad deployed to the scene to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the area.

Two policemen were seriously injured in the attack.

The spokesman of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, said one of the policemen succumbed to his injuries.

He added that some of the protesting riders had been arrested and normalcy had returned to the area.
