Police nab gunman in Anambra hotel

Anambra State police command, has arrested a gunman at a popular hotel in Akwa, capital of the state.

The arrest of the suspect was confirmed in a statement made by the spokesman of the command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.

He said the gunman identified as Akuchieani Echezona was arrested when he was sighted prowling around the premises of the hotel on 20th July.

When he was accosted by the force operatives, a search was conducted on him which led to the recovery of one English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition.

Ikenga in the statement said, “Surveillance Operatives of Anambra State Police Command have arrested a lone gunman at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Awka.

“Surveillance Operatives who observed the man prowling around the premises on 20th July. 2023 accosted him and conducted a search on his person. One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him.

“The suspect who gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, a male resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate source of the weapon as well as the gunman’s intention for going armed to the hotel.

“The suspect is to be arraigned in court at conclusion of investigation.”
