IGP denies directing withdrawal of police aides from VIPs

Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has denied ordering the withdrawal of all mobile police operatives attached to high profile individuals in the country.
Recall that a police signal had been circulating online, purportedly ordering the removal of police aides from certain top politicians and their relatives.
The police signal even mentioned withdrawal of police aides from former Nigeria First lady, Aisha Buhari and a naphew of Muhammadu Buhari.
But a statement signed on Monday by the Force spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the signal was fake and did not emanate from the police or any of its formations.
“More emphatically, the signal deviates from the Police’s telegraphic message structure and standard as the signal bears the signature of a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), which is highly irregular, as a signal of this nature would typically be signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), who heads such formations, and not a higher-ranking officer,” the statement added.
According to the police spokesperson, the IGP has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident, assuring Nigerians that appropriate action would be taken against anyone found responsible.
“The Acting Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has taken immediate notice and has ordered a thorough investigation into its source and assures that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible for its creation and dissemination,” the statement noted.
